Match Reports 2/12/07 LEAGUE GAMES UNDER 16'S DIVISION
TWO With only three fixtures in the division it gave leaders Oadby Owls
a chance to stretch the lead at the top and did not let any-one down with a 5
- 0 win over lowly Swallows Green goals from Dom Page (2) , Jamie Robey (2) and
Jamie Patterson completed the scoring for Oadby. Quorn Juniors and Wigston Rangers
fought out a eight goal thriller at Loughborough with Harold Giwa-Amu (2), Dan
Mitchell and Dan Harris scoring for Wigston. Woodgate 80 won away at Friar Lane
& Epworth 2 - 1, Ryan Rowley got the Epworth goal.
DIVISION THREE Leaders
Highfield Rangers kept their four point cushion at the top of the division with
a hard fought victory over Countesthorpe Athletic 03 Karma Solanki on target for
the home side. Raynsway Rangers had a different defensive line up to what was
expected. It was Raynsway who took the early lead in the first have. It was that
early it happened straight after kick-off. With a few passes put together, Zak
Ainscough was through to slot the first goal of the game. Foxes pushed for an
equaliser, but the thinking done by the defensive quartet halted the Foxes. Raynsway
goalkeeper (James Bowman) with a few early saves to make but was not busy most
of the time. Raynsway second goal came after Jack Barson had done well keeping
the ball in control, but Jack Pizer scored after a big scramble in the Melton
box. Melton Foxes came with more anger in their eyes, trying to pull one back,
but the Raynsway goalkeeper, defence and the midfield kept them at bay. After
a team talk by Daz Rayns and Sean Jordan at half time, the Raynsway team were
even more confident. The second half was a bit hard for Raynsway because the sun
had come out. Melton Foxes had two early chances which were put just a whisker
over the cross bar, and one where it hit the side netting. This boosted their
confidence. John Beedie tried to repeat the skill he did last week, by trying
to round the keeper - James Bowman, but Bowman did ever so well and collected
the ball from Beedie's feet. Melton Foxes goal keeper also made some good saves.
Zak Ainscough was there again to show his talent and scored to make it three for
Raynsway. Zak Ainscough nearly got a hat trick but his shot was blocked by one
of the Melton Foxes Players, but Jack Barson was there to tap in the loose ball
which had been blocked a few seconds before. Gamble scored for Melton Foxes late
on due to poor marking. Raynsway Rangers would have loved a clean sheet, but were
still happy with the three points Mid table Harborough Town kept their recent
good form going with a 4 - 0 win against local rivals Fleckney Athletic , Jack
Phillips (2) , Brad Eastwood and Barnes Gladman all scoring for Town. Friar Lane
Juniors had a comfortable win over Dunton & Broughton with goals from Ellis
Millins, Liam Butler and Michael Smith making up the 3 - 0 win.
DIVISION
FOUR With only one fixture in the division Kegworth Imps played Shepshed
Village Youth and recorded their sixth victory of the season with a 2 - 0 win,
goals were scored by Martin Murphy and Joe Toon.
COUNTY CUP REPORTS UNDER
18'S AC Wigston returned to form with a resounding 9-1 County Cup win at
under-strength Queniborough. An own goal started the ball rolling for Wigston
and further goals from Dean Wade and Ryan Mapp (his first goal in competitive
football) gave them a three goal advantage at the break. Skipper Austin McNulty,
given a more advanced role than normal, responded with a fine individual performance
and his second half hat trick of quality strikes saw his side home in style. Queniborough
deserve credit for a battling display ay both ends and managed a goal of their
own before Luke Foster, Nathan Keizer and a second from Dean Wade completed the
scoring. Kingsway continued there impressive form with Tom Mansfield scoring another
hat-trick against Wigston. Ben Jarvis with 2, Tom Bedford with a goal after an
impressive run down the wing, cutting inside to take his goal nicely. A rare goal
from defensive midfielder Andy Goodall with a clinical finish. Westfield travelled
to Castle Donington in the County Cup hoping to add to their run of 4 successive
victories. However a woeful first half performance left them with a mountain to
climb. Westfield struggled to cope with the strong wind, which made life difficult
for both Teams. Only 5 minutes had gone when Nicky Dean tipped over a fierce shot,
from the resulting corner a Castle Donnington forward rose unchallenged to head
in his sides opener. A second soon followed when slack marking let the striker
in on goal, although his shot was well saved the rebound fell kindly, and a tap
in made it 2-0. After 20 minutes the Westfield defence were slow in clearing and
were punished when the Donington striker won the ball and ran through unchallenged
to round the keeper and slide home for his team's third. Westfield tried to get
back into the game, but missed chances when they came their way, and looked a
dispirited outfit at half Time. A different Team came out for the second half,
determined not to bow out of the Cup without a fight. suddenly they were winning
the 50/50 tackles and were giving Donington no time on the ball, as they fought
for everything, a goal looked on the cards, but when it came it was for Donington,
a clearance was not dealt with by the Westfield defence, and the indecision was
costly as the eventual back pass was too short and the striker nipped in to score
with ease to make it 4-0. To their credit Westfield continued to press and Tom
Wallace hit the crossbar, soon after, the ball came out to Matt Hunt in central
defence, and his long cross into the box was carried on the wind right into the
top corner of the net via the post. With renewed hope Westfield continued to attack
and Stuart Heathcote hit a strong shot goal bound, with the keeper stranded another
strong gust of wind took the ball out of his reach and into the net. A third goal
soon followed as Ryan Brightwell played a neat one two with Ben Sykes and slipped
the ball past the keeper. Westfield battled for the equaliser, and chances came
and went, with little time left Westfield threw more men forward, but the goal
would not come, and the inevitable happened when Donington broke away with 2 minutes
left to score the decisive 5th goal. Westfield could be proud of their second
half performance, but left the pitch knowing that they had left themselves too
much to do. In the last match in the county cup Quorn juniors beat Mowbray Rangers
to earn a place in the Next round after a 4 - 0 victory.
UNDER 17'S Premier
League leader Enderby proved too strong for a Lutterworth side who struggled to
find their current league form in this County Cup clash. Enderby showed their
intentions with two goals in the first five minutes. Sam Young hitting the first
and Jim Czerpak diverted the ball into his own net following a goal mouth scramble.
Enderby continued the scoring throughout the first half with Jonathan Walker claiming
two, Nathan Bedford and David Read also finding the net. Lutterworth did start
to find a bit of form at the start of the second half when a bit more creative
play lead to their only goal from Brad Hughes. Lutterworth held Enderby at bay
for around 20 minutes but a second goal for Read opened the gates again and Enderby
took full advantage. Further strikes from Bedford, Jordan Norton and two more
for hat-trick scorer Young completed the rout. Melton Foxes progressed into the
last eight of the county cup with a three nil away win at Friar Lane. Foxes played
up the slope against the blustery wind in the first half, Friar Lane never really
made the most of the conditions and Foxes made the breakthrough with the last
attack of the first half. Striker Mark Tinsley charged down the keeper's clearance,
the ball ran along the edge of the area to Luke Smith who hit the ball into the
unguarded net. Foxes created and missed a lot of good chances in the second half
before they finally got the second goal. After eighty minutes Jack Woodhall's
in swinging corner was converted by Captain Dan Cooper at the back post. The third
goal came from an excellent pass from Aaron Shaw, picking out Mark Tinsley who
controlled the ball well before beating the keeper. Premier division leaders Birstall
united handed out a 10 - 0 thrashing to Glenfield United of division one with
goals from Jonathan Gaydon, Richard Metcalf , Aaron Hedley (2) , Jamie Smith ,
Nathan Charles and a hat-trick from Scott Newby. Westfield Wanderers advanced
to the quarter-finals with a three -nil win over division two team Syston Town
goals from Mickey Widdowson , Craig Chin and Baz Goodman .In the all division
one clash Cosby United beat rivals Barwell Athletic 2 - 0 . Beaumont Town beat
Kirby Muxloe from the second division6 - 1.
UNDER 16'S Countesthorpe
Athletic moved safely in to the quarter finals with a hard fought victory over
Royce Rangers, in the only all Premier Division tie. Played in blustery conditions
it was Royce with the wind at their backs who took the lead after 25 minutes with
a well struck drive, but the home side soon replied with a ferocious Kyle Sperry
drive, and soon after another Sperry drive was well saved only for Charles Butler
to snap up the rebound. The visitors soon leveled after the break, and at that
stage the game was in the balance, but with the home having the advantage of the
wind behind them Matt Bizley used it to full effect to drill Countesthorpe into
the lead again, then soon after Sperry smartly finished a fine team move before
striding clear to complete his hat trick in confident style. Premier side Mowbray
Rangers had a long trek but it was made perfect after returning from Gilmorton
Juniors with a one goal to nil win to earn a place in the quarterfinals. Rothley
Imps produced the shock of the round by dumping Leicester Nirvana out with a four
-three win. With five games left over till next week it's a long wait for the
quarterfinal draw. |
