UNDER 18'S PREMIER
DIVISION Westfield Wanderers lost their first game of the season in a very
competitive high scoring match at high flying Asfordby. Although they lost 8-4,
Westfield hit the woodwork twice, and missed several other chances to score. Too
many players were below their best, and the team left the pitch frustrated, feeling
they could have won the game, but too many individual errors had proved costly,
leading to goals conceded. Scorers for Westfield were Tom Wallace who opened the
scoring with a well taken strike from the corner of the penalty box, Phil Lee
with a spectacular volley and a penalty, and David Drewery who nipped in to lob
the ball over the keeper from close range. Ryan Brightwell was unlucky to see
two well taken free kicks hit the post, and crossbar. Ultimately, Asfordby deserved
to win to maintain their 100 % record.
UNDER 17 COUNTY CUP In
the only fixture of the day Enderby 2000 beat Barrow 4 -1. COUNTY CUP U16 ROUND
ONE Enderby 2000 from the Under-16 Division 4 upset the form book by beating
Premier Division Blaby and Whetstone in a 9 goal thriller - having been seemingly
dead and buried at half-time, when the score was 3-0 to Blaby and Whetstone. The
4th Blaby and Whetstone goal was very unfortunate as it came via a re-taken penalty
- the original kick having been saved by the Enderby goalkeeper, Manraj Nijjar.
Despite the half-time scoreline, and vocal Blaby and Whetstone support which was
at times very disrespectful to the Enderby 2000 team, Enderby 2000 began the second
half in good spirits and soon pulled a goal back via Stuart Kenney. 2 further
goals from Kenney, together with 2 more goals from Sam Cockrell, completed the
astonishing Enderby 2000 comeback and the celebrations began! Most of the
other premier teams came through the first round unscathed, Aylestone continued
their recent good form by scoring ten past Beaumont town juniors with out reply,
James Ireland the pick of the forwards celebrating his call up to the Youth League's
Representative side by scoring five goals, Wez Potter also with a call up helped
in the rout with a goal, the others coming from Joe Henton , Tom Orton and an
own goal. Royce Rangers had no trouble dispatching Mountsorrel Juniors 13 - 1.
Syston Juniors won away at Swallows Green youth 10 - 2, Barrow Town dispatched
Friar Lane Juniors8 - 1 and St Andrews won 9 - 0 at Bottesford Youth. Saffron
Dynamo and Mowbray Rangers had a fight on their hands to over come lower league
opposition rangers winning 5 - 3 at Narborough & Littlethorpe and Dynamo at
Woodgate 80, 2 - 4 to the away side. The other high score of the day was at
Fleckney, Athletic going down 9 - 0 to Rothley Imps. Countesthorpe Athletic from
the premier division also had a close call at Quorn Juniors before coming away
with a 6 - 2 victory, Westfield Wanderers and Oadby Owls both beat their opposition
7 - 0 , Owls at home to Dunton & Broughton and Wanderers away to Melton Foxes.
There were home wins for Ratby Sports, Gilmorton Juniors, Loughborough FC
Youth, Leicester Nirvana, Netherhall Diamonds and Kegworth Imps. Of the teams
winning away only Gaunt youth found it hard going Beating Lutterworth juniors
3-2, the other away win came from Highfield rangers , Bardon hill juniors and
friar lane and Epworth. Sileby Town juniors secured a hard earned 1-0 away win.
Countesthorpe started well and Sileby keeper Tom Needham had to pull off a fine
one handed save to keep the score 0 - 0.After a half time team talk Sileby town
started with more purpose and were rewarded with a goal.Man of the match Lewis
Maxfield had a looping shot which the Countesthorpe keeper did well to push onto
the crossbar, Sileby's Cameron McCallister reacted quickly to place a firm header
into the net. After further Sileby pressure Lewis Maxfield had a low drive which
hit the post and Conor Simpson had a rasping shot just wide. Countesthorpe played
their part in a competitive match throughout the whole game. An unlucky
run of injuries forced changes upon Loughborough side but three goals in each
half saw a rampant Dynamo pass the first hurdle in the County Cup by six goals
to nil on a day when they could have had more. Loughborough seems to have found
its rhythm and has started to move the ball with a speed and precision of old.
Two goals each for Morris and a revitalised Duggan were supplemented by goals
from Major, a fierce drive from all of twenty-five inches, and new boy Burners,
with a simple tap-in, consolidated Loughborough's dominance on a day when Shelthorpe
were far from passive. The action started in the sixth minute when Scott and Morris
linked up to put Duggan through for a right foot shot that beat the keeper. On
sixteen minutes Morris was brought down in the area and scored the penalty only
to follow it up on twenty two minutes by getting on the end of a deftly flighted
ball over the top from Tack to make it three nil. By this stage Munaim and Brandford
had got a grip of the mid-field and were feeding Scott and Sharma on the flanks
ad this saw Duggan, who was proving himself something of a nuisance on the left,
create two further opportunities but fail to convert. Duggan netted again
on forty-two minutes to make it four nil with a fierce volley from close range
and Loughborough were now coming forward at will. Burners added a fifth, on fifty-two
minutes, picking up the pieces at a poorly cleared corner and Major delivered
the final blow, on sixty-two minutes, capitalising on an error by the Shelthorpe
keeper to make it six nil. Shelthorpe continued to fight with spirit and drew
a fine save from Carter in the Loughborough net who tipped a fierce drive over
the bar but the only real troubles caused to the parsimonious Loughborough defence
were self-inflicted but, thankfully, rare. This was another encouraging performance
from Dynamo who seem to be shaking themselves free of the summer's cob-webs.
