UNDER 18'S PREMIER
DIVISION Asfordby Amateurs took over the top spot of the premier division
after a seven goal thriller at Rawlings College against Quorn with the goals coming
at regular intervals Asfordby just managed to hold on to win 4-3. Queniborough
had a chance to kick their season into shape then today was it. a change in formation
from manager Ian Tomlinson following the previous results, seen the team finally
find their feet. Queniborough started excellently and dominated the game for the
first half hour. Tom Meredith forced an early acrobatic save from Wigston's in
form goalkeeper. It was only after 36 minutes when goalkeeper and Captain Simon
Coulthurst drilled a back pass strait to the feet of Wigston's unmarked attacker.
He didn't need anymore invitation than that to slot the ball away in the bottom
corner. Just before the break centre half Jack Shaw cut across the attacker in
the area to see Queniborough concede their fourth penalty in 4 matches. 2 sloppy
goals before the break and Queniborough went off for the break under a lot of
pressure. Manager Ian Tomlinson swapped it round slightly at the break and it
looked promising. Midfielder Steve Mitchell fed striker Ford Taylor through to
see him rocket the ball over the bar. Alongside him was Tom Meredith who later
on found himself storming towards goal 1 against 1 and the goalkeeper reacted
fantastically to stop the goal. Wigston scored again from sloppy defending from
Queniborough from a corner and a toe seen the ball slotted home. Unlucky day for
Queniborough on another day the score could of easily be turned round. The day
will come for juniors. The final score being 3-0 to Wigston United. Mowbray
rangers were the highest scorers of the division with a 5 - 0 demolition of Gilmorton
Juniors. A C Wigston scrapped a 1 - 0 home win over Syston Town and Kegworth Imps

a weakened Khalsa side, second placed Enderby 2000 had a 7 - 0 away victory at
Westfield Wanderers. Third placed Birstall were the team left without a game so
it gave Loughborough Dynamo a chance to gain ground against Coalville. The game
started as a fast paced and physical game with lots of chances on goal from both
sides, but it was Loughborough's Patrick Allihn who hit the back of the net twice
in the first half, although Coalville had brought things back onto a level footing
by halftime. The 2nd half saw Dynamo go in front once again when Allihn completed
his hat trick minutes after the restart. Vijay Godhania, who had only been on
the pitch a few minutes adding a 4th from a free kick midway through the second

Town are the leaders of the premier division with a 5 -0 thrashing away at Barrow
Town, Mitch Williams led the way for Syston by scoring a brace the other goal
scorers were Joe Danvers, Tom Elson and Dan Epworth. Mowbray Rangers remain second
despite drawing a blank at home to Loughborough Dynamo; Dynamo came out on top
by one goal to nil in a tense, claustrophobic affair played on a pitch that had
more to do with philately than football at Melton Mowbray on Sunday. In a game
with precious little football on display Cook scored the only goal of the game
on sixty eight minutes, a Beckhamesque free kick from just outside the eighteen
yard box which found the very top of the top right hand corner of the net to break
the deadlock. Some uncharitable onlookers and teammates suggested that perhaps
Cook was crossing not shooting but either way it was enough for a memorable victory.
The pattern of the match emerged early in the first half with play squeezed into
a congested midfield and both sides relying upon balls over the top for their
attacking outlets. Some of the spectators needed neck braces at half time after
having spent much of the first half gazing into the heavens looking for the ball
amongst flocks of migrating birds. Scott and Morris on the left did manage to
penetrate the well marshalled Mowbray defence on more than one occasion but didn't
seriously threaten the Mowbray net. The second half saw Loughborough having more
success at keeping the ball on the ground with O'Mara and Cook and Russell and
Scott linking to create opportunities which were not converted and Morris continuing
to press for weaknesses through the centre. Major and Sharma were thrown on for
the last twenty minutes to add physical presence and on sixty-eight minutes Cook
flighted a free kick beyond the Mowbray keeper's outstretched hand to take a deserved
lead. This set up a tense last ten minutes. Mowbray pressed for the equaliser
and came close to scoring when a throw in on the right saw the Loughborough defender
turned and the shot across the goal rebound off the post and back across the goal
where a Mowbray striker put the follow up wide of an empty net. While this wasn't
pretty Loughborough have eked out a result away from home against a good side
which had more to do with their application and commitment than their creative
flair. Countesthorpe Athletic came away from Dorset avenue with a fine 3 points
in a hard fought game. Aylestone Park had plenty of possession in the first half
but failed to create a serious attempt on goal, whilst the visitors looked dangerous
on the break. On the stroke of half time Countesthorpe were awarded a free kick
25 yards out, up stepped Danny Jenno to rifle a thunderbolt strike into the Aylestone
net via a post. The home side continued to press in the second half, but with
Tom Mason and Jenno in inspired form there was no way through, Tom Weaver and
Aaron Murray took hold of the middle of the park and created the best chance of
the game, only to see Matt Bizley narrowly drag his shot wide. Royce Rangers had
a narrow home win against the unlucky Blaby and Whetstone by two to one with goals
scored by the league top goal getter in Joe Halon (2). Saffron Dynamo came away
from the home match with St Andrews with a 2 - 2 drew , Andrews spurning many
chances and leading at half time 2 - 0 but in the second half a good rally from
dynamo led to a draw Sam Becket and Joe Wright getting the home goals. DIVISION

on two occasions. Fleckney held firm and a great run from Ricky Singh saw a cross

Anstey Swifts won at Shepshed Village, this was a game both sides were looking
forward to and on the day could of gone either way. Anstey broke the deadlock
in the 2 minute of game by a lucky rebound, as Sam Blackshaw the Shepshed keeper
made a clearance but the ball rebounded in to his own net to give Anstey a gifted
early goal. Ashley Tyler pulled a goal back for Shepshed before half time to make
the half time score 1-1. second half got under way and both teams knew they could
step up a gear and Anstey was the team to do that, the Shepshed defence and goalkeeper
doing all they could to try and prevent more goals but found it hard to cope with
the Anstey attack, and Anstey bagged 3 more goals and went home with the 3 points.
Gaunt Youth still in third place after a five nil thrashing of Loughborough FC
