UNDER 18'S
PREMIER DIVISION

The re-vamped Under-18 Premier League saw AC Wigston travel to Mowbray Rangers, both sides having had convincing wins on the opening weekend. As it turned out am under-strength Mowbray were brushed aside as Wigston stormed to a 4-0 win. Lewis Madelin's clever finish started the ball rolling and winger Aaron Soper smashed home the second to cement the half-time lead. With the Wigston midfield of Shiels, McNulty and Keizer pulling the strings the second half saw much of the same with chances going begging before two calm close-range finishes from Dean Wade gave the scoreline a more realistic look.

Westfield Wanderers started their first game of the season in the U18 Premier League in lively fashion, with Player of the Match Alex Tustain looking dangerous on the left wing. However they failed to capitalise on this early possession and it was Syston who opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a well taken goal. Westfield continued to press and they were rewarded after 35 minutes when Stuart Heathcoat drilled the ball into the six yard box, and Ben Sykes was on hand to score.

Westfield keeper Nicky Dean kept his Team in it with some good saves as Syston stepped up a gear in the second half. In a frantic last 10 minutes both Teams had chances to win the game but were unable to convert. In the end a draw was a fair result, in a game that was played in a sporting fashion by both Teams and well controlled by referee Darren Russell

UNDER 16'S

PREMIER DIVISION

Following, a 1-0 midweek success over Countesthorpe, Mowbray Rangers continued their fine start with an excellent win at last season's champions, Barrow. The visitors started the game with a high tempo, and matched the home side throughout. Halfway through the first-half, Mowbray took the lead, after some patient build-up play. Simon Baker's deep cross, was headed back across goal by Liam Prenderville, for Mark Cowling to add the finishing touches. Rangers continued to press and were unlucky not to add further to their lead. Harris's low shot brushing past the far post, and McJanet failing to apply the touch to a free-kick. The hosts began to get a foothold on the game however, quality defending from Tom Spawton kept Barrow's strikers at bay. Mowbray began the second-half in a similar fashion, and it wasn't long before they doubled their lead, Prenderville's cross, headed into his own net by the Barrow defender. The hosts pressed forward looking for a goal but were denied thanks to some inspired saves by Sam Collington. As, Rangers tired in stoppage time, the hosts got their goal. Ollie English's mazy run was not dealt with by the visitors, and he finished for a late goal. Mowbray held firm for the remaining minutes for a valuable win.

The clash of the Dynamos produced a tense, evenly contested game with some electricity, two missed penalties but few clear-cut chances. The warm, sunny afternoon was complemented by some spirited individual performances with Munaim and Bennett proving industrious in midfield and Morris causing problems in the last third. On an afternoon where opportunities were in short supply both sides will rue the missed penalties: the first on seventeen minutes following a miss-timed challenge from Brandford saw Saffron put the spot-kick over the bar and the second, on fifty six minutes, saw Morris draw a rash challenge from the Saffron defence but fail to convert the penalty as the Saffron keeper produced a fine diving save to his right.

Saffron pressed Loughborough for much of the first half with O'Mara and Cordy clearing up on several occasions and Tack making a last ditch tackle as Saffron went through on the keeper on thirty six minutes. Although Loughborough rallied towards the end of the half, with an O'Mara header from a Cook corner drawing a good save from the keeper, Saffron were the more fluent.

Loughborough came out with more purpose in the second half and kept better control of the ball. They started asking questions of the Saffron defence and one of these was answered with the award of the penalty. Both sides continued to press for the goal that would not come and in the end the draw was a fair result for both teams' efforts.

DIVISION ONE

Narborough under 16's continued their fine start to the season with a hard fought away win at Beaumont Town. On a bone hard pitch it was difficult for both sides to play attractive football, the visitors took the lead when Matt Barrington saw the keeper off his line and expertly looped the ball over his head from 35 yards out. Keeper Luke Veebel saved bravely at the feet of a Beaumont striker to preserve Narborough's lead as the first half went into injury time. Into the second half and the visitors continued to defend resolutely with the back three of Joe Monksfield, Sam Stancombe and Tom Morgan rock solid, several chances to increase the lead were squandered and the final score was 1-0.

Sileby Town started the brighter side against a physical Ibstock Youth. Sileby played some nice neat football and carved through the Ibstock defence as the game went on Ibstock used the wind to keep Sileby on the back foot with their style of play. With half an hour gone Ibstock took the lead when Sileby failed to clear their lines and the ball was scrambled into the net to put the visitors 1-0 up.

After a half-time pep talk Sileby Town started playing with more determination and passion. This time Sileby sustained their pressure and dominated the second half. This endeavour eventually paid off when Sileby Town equalised. Conor Simpson won possession from the Ibstock defender and split the Ibstock's defence with an intelligent through ball to captain Matt North who drilled the ball passed the Ibstock keeper. This was no more than Sileby Town deserved. Sileby kept the pressure on to the final whistle but the game finished 1-1.
