FINALS DAY AND PRESENTATIONS 18/05/008 What
a explosive end to the season for the youth league as no less than 18 goals were
scored in the three finals on a sandy pitch at Oadby Town. UNDER 18 LEAGUE
CUP Quorn Juniors celebrated the double after picking up the under 18 premier
title they went on to come from behind to clinch the league cup in dramatic style.
Quorn and Syston Town enjoyed the best final seen in a real battle from end to
end, James price had given Quorn Juniors an early lead only for Luke Clark to
level from the penalty spot, after a hand ball in the Quorn penalty box. Syston
then began to play some fine football and took a shock lead when Michael Humphries
forced the ball home, still sensing the game was there for the taking good play
from Ollie Gruddings forced an own goal through Jack Richardson, Syston kept up
the pressure until half time and were glad of the break. The second half started
with Quorn on the attack and it was no surprise when they drew first blood with
a classy goal from Adrian Lyayi , Syston had no answer to the Quorn attacks and
were lucky to survive plenty of goalmouth clearances, however Nick Edmands had
the answers when he popped up in the Quorn box to restore the advantage. Quorn
pushed Syston back and after a number of chances got the reward they were looking
for when Thomas Doherty reduced the arrears. With two minutes to go Quorn were
reduced to nine men after the earlier departure of another player. Both players
receiving straight red cards, Ross Wormleighton managed to grab the equaliser
with 30 seconds on the clock to force the tie into 15 minutes each way extra time.
During the extra time Syston never regained the advantage and it looked like Quorn
would be the most likely team to score. With time running out Adrian Lyayi crabbed
the winner after an excellent save from Syston keeper Matt Coren only to parry
into the strikers path for the winner. FINAL SCORE QUORN JUNIORS 5 - 4 SYSTON
TOWN JUNIORS AET UNDER 17 LEAGUE CUP Enderby 2000 were
on the cup trial after picking up the premier title and hoping for the double
but an excellent Beaumont Town had different ideas. Beaumont started the brighter
but neither team could find the opening but after 20 minutes Beaumont Town took
the lead with a goal from man-of-the-match Luke Day who was a constant threat
to the Enderby goal producing a clinical finish to give the under dogs the lead.
Enderby had to find some answers to unlock the Town defence, after 30 minutes
Liam Webster stepped up to fire in the equaliser and set up a classic tie. Beaumont
responded immediately when Ashton Kenny finished of a good move to give them the
advantage back, at this stage Enderby had no plan B and ran out of steam and ideas.
With their tails up Beaumont Town pushed on even higher up the pitch to search
for the third goal and they got it when Dan Hargrave gave Town a 2 goal advantage,
with the rest of the game fizzling out it was left to Beaumont Town to pick up
the trophy. FINAL SCORE BEAUMONT TOWN '04 3 - 1 ENDERBY 2000 UNDER
16 LEAGUE CUP Syston Town were on the trophy trail for a clean sweep of
honours in the under 16 final, already with the county cup and premier trophy
in the cabinet they were determined to finish the season in style. Spare a thought
for Saffron Dynamo it was not their day from the first kick Syston always looked
more eager for the ball and first to the challenge it was a game of damage limitation
after Saffron conceded three goals in ten first half minutes just before the break
leaving themselves with a mountain to climb in the second period. The first half
goals were scored by Alex Honour with a brace and Lee Armett. The second half
was no better for Dynamo as they puffed and tried to play good football but it
was always going to be Town's day Jamie Allen capped a fine season with the golden
boot award and Getting the forth as they started to sense victory, Mitchell Williams
wrapped up the game with the fifth and sparked wild celebrations by the Syston
supporters. SYSTON TOWN JUNIORS 5 - 0 SAFFRON DYNAMO |
